Letters to the Editors

Robert T. Waska, M.S., MFCC

To the Editors:

I wish to call your attention to an article printed in your journal, Volume 2, number 4, in 1993. In the article, “Perverse Transference and Psychoanalytic Technique: An Introduction to the Work of Horacio Etchegoyen,” Richards makes a statement that is false. On page 467, she states, “Thus, Glover (1933), a Kleinian, believed …”

Glover was never a Kleinian. In fact, Klein felt very much in battle with him during the period of the so-called controversial discussions. I think this misunderstanding on Richard.’ part may have thrown a significant piece of her argument into question. Ralph Greenson, a Freudian, states in 1974, “the approach of the Kleinian analysts described … is in striking contrast to that of the majority of Freudian analysts (Federn, 1943; Eissler, 1953; Glover, 1955) …” (p. 38).
