The present editorial direction of American Imago will continue the traditional policy. Sponsored by The Association For Applied Psychoanalysis, the journal will focus on the application of psychoanalysis to culture, science and the arts; examining literature, painting, sculpture and music; religion, philosophy, mythology and mythopoesis; history, sociology and anthropology; law, politics and education, science and symbolism. It will also examine individual writers and painters of the past and present.
The journal introduces several new features:
An attempt will be made to make each issue into a kind of topical “book,” by selecting articles which bear on one specific problem, author or artist.
It will include communications on selected theatrical productions, films and television programs.
It will carry reviews of books related to the field of psychoanalysis.
The present issue centers in the problem of Psychoanalysis as a Science and as an Art. Subsequent issues will deal with some of the following topics:
Eros: Problems of Love and Sexuality
Thanatos: Drives Toward Aggression, War and Death
Symbolism: Pathology and Creativity
