This book is probably the most superior treatise extant on the subject of hypnosis. Under the authoritative editorship of Milton V. Kline, it offers a handbook for experienced clinicians
and experimental investigators. It consists of a compilation of representative experimental investigators. Stressing the multi-dimensional variables in hypnosis, the volume would bridge “experimental hypnosis” and “therapeutic hypnosis” by showing that both can be subsumed under an integrated framework.—Part I presents original material on clinical constructs which are relevant to the therapeutic process by John G. Watkins, Charles W. Gardner, Jr., Gary. Morris, Milton V. Kline, Jerome M. Schneck, Arthur Shapiro and Robert Reiff. Part II consists of collected papers on representative experimental investigations with hypnosis. Among the contributors are Gerald A. Ehrenreich on unconscious factors, Henry Guze on the theory of the emotional response in hypnosis, Philip F. D. Seitz on the substitution of symptoms of hypnosis. Other contributors include Montague Ullman, Margaret Brenman, Milton Mazer, Leslie Farber and Charles Fisher.
