A detailed report of three men—each of whom claimed to be Christ—who lived together for 2 years at the State mental hospital at Ypsilanti, Michigan. Dr. Rokeach, a social psychologist
and the author of The Open and Closed Mind (1960), tells their story, the interaction among them and the “intervention” of the research personnel (a form of “joining the resistance”) in an engaging and felicitous manner.—The report may contribute to the problem of identification on a primitive level, as encountered in archaic delusional systems of belief.
