The focus of this book is on the social-historical conditions of our time, as one of the crucial factors, which account for violence. Wertham covers the multi-faceted manifestations of aberrant behavior from the crematoria and “euthanasia” murders (sponsored by German psychiatrists) to vandalism and juvenile delinquency. He is particularly insistent on the effect of crime comics, TV murder dramas, “kill toys.” The book is written with a passionate concern lest violence become the norm of societal behavior.
