This anthology is based on the good insight that we get a fuller and deeper insight into abnormal behavior through some of our literature than through abstract analysis or case histories. The authors present selections from a wide range of writers, such as Chechov, Gogol, Hugo, Thomas Mann, Balzac, Flaubert, Dostoyevsky, Poe, Rilke, Meville, Hawthorne, Proust, Strindberg, Tolstoy, Lawrence, Malraux who give us at once uniquely individual and the three-dimensional portraits of the many types of abnormality. Each selection is prefaced by a brief and competent introduction by the authors.
