Wolman's book is a clear and accurate account of the basic principles of psychoanalytic theory and practice. Wolman eschews recourse to technical terminology and presents the material in an attractive idiom.
Part One is devoted to the theory of psychoanalysis and includes useful outlines of the philosophical principles underlying Freud's metapsychology. It also contains a discussion of the anthropological, religious and social applications of psychoanalysis, with brief excursions into ego psychology and other developments of Freudian theory.
Part Two gives a survey of psychoanalytic technique and symptomatology. The last section presents the modifications of Freud's theories by Reich, Ferenczi, Wolman and others.
Wolman's book is an important contribution towards the understanding of Freudian psychology and should be especially useful to many non-professionals.
