The academic year 1960-1961 began with another delightful and successful Dean's Reception. This gathering had a special significance as it was held in our building and we were settled in our new quarters.
The Board of Trustees met ten times and the membership had two meetings. The Board certified Drs. Andrew K. Bernath, Joseph S. Fischer, Sydney E. Langer, Louis M. Lipton, and Donald J. Van Gordon. Six new candidates were admitted to training.
At the April membership meeting, Dr. Joseph W. Vollmerhausen was elected as a full member of the American Institute for Psychoanalysis under the provisions of Article V, Section 1 G and 1 I of the Constitution. The Board appointed Dr. Harold Kelman to represent the Institute to discuss mutual interests and problems with other representatives of psychoanalytic training centers. Such an informal meeting was held in January, 1961. The spirit of this meeting was exploratory. The Board approved the necessary funds to help complete the building of our library. We are aware of the necessity to raise funds from those who are interested in our work in order to keep us functioning at our high level.
The Board of Trustees notes with sorrow the death of Sidney Sheiner, who was a dedicated member of the Board of Directors of the Karen Horney Clinic, Inc.
The flow of new candidates looks more promising than it has for some time. Our training program is regularly reviewed by the Faculty Council and the Clinic Board to meet the needs of candidates and to increase our services to the community. The various facets of our research program are actively progressing.
