During the academic year 1960-61, the Candidates Association had two combined social-scientific meetings. It was decided this year that in the scientific program of the meetings, group process be explored. In the first meeting the “how come” of group psychoanalysis was explored, and in the second, tape recordings of group sessions were listened to, and clarified by Dr. Louis E. DeRosis. Sessions were well attended. of special interest was the area of selection of patients for group psychoanalysis.
In the March interval meeting, the Candidates Association participated with Dr. Houston Brummit, one of our newest candidates, who presented a paper entitled “The Utilization of Anger in Therapy”. The discussion was by Dr. Sidney Rosen and Dr. Samuel Greenberg. This meeting highlighted one of the essential features of our group: the ability of one of our youngest candidates to present his ideas and have them developed by an excellent discussion both from the panel and from the floor.
The Bulletin continued under the capable editorship of Dr. Sidney Rosen, who is to be personally commended for his tireless efforts to put out an outstanding Candidates Bulletin.
In June, with the able help of Dr. Stanley Kaye, we had our annual picnic and outing at Stony Lodge and our gracious host, Dr. Luis Murillo, made us welcome.
The committees carried on their ancillary functions with great success and new ideas emerged for the coming year.
