The growth of the Candidates Association was happily enhanced by the addition of new members-in-traning at the Institute. The active participants of the Association enjoyed a fruitful year both socially and professionaly. Once again there was an annual picnic as well as excellent collations following each meeting.
Several meetings were of special interest and certainly warrant mention here. We want to thank Dr. Paul Lussheimer for his warm, informal, and extremely interesting talk on the development of the Institute and its affiliate organizations. Dr. David Shainberg is to be commended for his stimulating presentation of a paper entitled “On Identity Formation.” Dr. Andrew K. Ruotolo represented us admirably at the Interval Meeting devoted to our organization. His paper entitled “Murder Was Incidental” was both fascinating and informative.
Raising the annual dues was seen as a constructive move and resulted in a treasury surplus. We were, therefore, able to continue our practice of making an annual donation to the Karen Horney Memorial Dinner. The extra money also has enabled us to send a copy of the minutes of each meeting to all the members of the Association, and has covered the costs of refreshments at meetings.
This year saw the formation of two new standing committees: a Jobs Committee and a Hospital Affiliation Committee. The purpose of the former is to aid members in securing professional positions. The Hospital Committee will cooperate should our Institute decide to affiliate with a hospital.
We congratulate Drs. Gerda Willner, Fred Willner, and John Meth on their graduation and certification. May I also take this opportunity to congratulate Dr. A. Stanley Kaye on his election as president of the Candidates Association. Our members join with me in wishing him and his administration every success in the academic year 1962-63.
