During the past year (6/1/62-5/31/63), the number of doctors on the Medical Staff reached its highest complement. Of the 70 doctors currently working at the clinic, 50 are providing treatment to patients in either individual or group therapy. The remaining 20 analysts provide services in Medical Administration, Supervision and Research, or are physicians in charge of departments. In addition, there are 3 part-time psychiatric case workers and 2 part-time psychologists. Since the Clinic was opened, one out of every 100 people in Manhattan has applied to us for help. This past year the total number of patients served was 1,382. The number of patients in active treatment was 219; of these, 92 were in individual therapy, 28 in group therapy, 87 patients-in-treatment were terminated, and 12 patients were screened for assignment.
During the year the professional staff provided the following therapeutic services: 7,500 hours by Treating-Doctors; 2,640 hours in the form of Medical Supervision; 3,000 hours by the Casework Staff and Psychologists for a total of 13,140 hours. In addition to the ongoing analytic work carried on by our Medical Staff, the following special projects are in operation in the Clinic: treatment of homosexual patients, obese patients, congenitally deaf children, family therapy, adolescents, creative individuals and others from the creative arts. In addition, the Research project involving an evaluation of the impact of therapy on the untreated spouse is still in process.
From May 1962 through April 1963 there were seven Medical Staff meetings on: “The Structure & Meaning of Morbid Dependency”; “The Psychoanalysis of Two Oriental Patients”; “Preliminary Report on Adolescent Group Therapy Project” (including case studies on two patients regarding the problem of selection); “Therapy of Schizophrenia”;
