During the 1964-65 calendar year the Board of Trustees of the American Institute met ten times.
One of its most important concerns is maintaining a steady flow of new candidates. For the most part this problem is shared by many, if not all, psychoanalytic training centers. Although the condition is not considered critical for the American Institute, it is a matter of concern. In this particular state of affairs, which has existed for several years, the American Institute has maintained itself with some distinction. Toward this end, the Board of Trustees, in October, 1964, appointed the Faculty Council as a committee to research and, if possible, devise ways and means of attracting candidates. The Faculty Council's reports to the Board of Trustees indicate that the Council keeps this problem constantly in the foreground. The Medical Director and the Medical Board of the Clinic are also engaged in trying to resolve the problem. The Medical Board of the Clinic proposed a Training Program for psychiatric residents. The Board of Trustees encouraged the Clinic Board to proceed with the development of a plan for such a Training Program and report its progress and recommendations.
As the Treasurer's report shows, the financial condition of the Institute is sound.
During the past year the Board of Trustees certified the following candidates: Drs. Irving Friedman, Jane Hathaway, Boris Heller, Henry Horowitz, A. Stanley Kaye, Melvin R. Miller, Samuel Seitz.
At its October meeting the Board of Trustees nominated the following to be members of the Medical Board of the Karen Horney Clinic: Drs. Melvin Boigon, Harry Gershman, Abe Pinsky, Jack Rubins and Antonia Wenkart. Dr. Paul Lussheimer was nominated as Consultant to the Medical Board of the Clinic. These nominations were accepted by the Karen Horney Clinic Board.
On the recommendation of the Faculty Council, the Board applied for an institutional membership in the National Association of Foreign Student Advisors.
