During the academic year of 1965-1966 the Candidates' Association was involved in a varied number of activities, social, scientific and business. Many of the candidates participated in the 25th Anniversary Dinner-Dance held on November 20, 1965 at the Hotel Pierre. The President of the Candidates' Association took part in addressing and extending greetings to those present.
During the year several members submitted papers to our Journal. Some had scientific papers published in other Journals, and some gave lectures. In addition, members of our Association continued to treat patients in the Karen Horney Clinic.
On May 7, 1966 a dinner was held at Luchow's to honor the recent graduates of the American Institute for Psychoanalysis who had received their diplomas the previous September at the Dean's Reception. Among the graduates present were Drs. Irving Friedman, Boris Heller, A. Stanley Kaye, Melvyn R. Miller and Sam M. Seitz. Each of the graduates addressed the group and reviewed his years at the Institute. The President then opened a discussion on the need for more active participation of the Candidates' Association in helping the Institute interest new candidates in our training program. There was interested concern expressed by many of the candidates and several constructive suggestions were put forth.
On June 9th Dr. Milton Lee gave an interesting paper entitled “The Clinic in the Psychoanalytic Relationship” at a Clinic meeting.
Later in June, with the usual help of Dr. A. Stanley Kaye, we had our annual picnic and outing at Stony Lodge, and our gracious host, Dr. Luis Murillo, made us welcome. It was a most enjoyable occasion. The year 1966-1967 promises to be a dynamic one under the able leadership of the new President, Dr. David Shainberg.
