Dr. Francis J. Braceland died on February 23, 1985. An exemplary psychiatrist, Dr. Braceland's career reflected his firm commitment to the advancement of our profession. He was founder of the Department of Psychiatry at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. He was also a member of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's medical team and a special witness at the Nuremberg trials of Nazi leaders. Many important accomplishments were credited to Dr. Braceland as President of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, President of the American Psychiatric Association, Vice-President of the World Psychiatric Association, and Editor of the American journal of Psychiatry.
Dr. Braceland was part of our Journal in the capacity of Member of the Advisory Board. We will miss his wisdom and support, but his example will forever inspire our work.
