After a quarter century of editorial work, I am stepping down as the Editor of the American Journal of Psychoanalysis. Twenty-five years ago, I was chosen to be the seventh editor of the then sixty-year-old AJP by the members of the Association for the Advancement of Psychoanalysis, the society which owns the journal. I was grateful for their trust and proud to be following a succession of great editors, starting with Karen Horney, our Founding Editor. It has been a great honor to carry on our historic legacy and heritage. This year, the American Journal of Psychoanalysis is in its eighty-fifth year of publication.
The twenty-five years of my work has been rich, challenging and immensely satisfying, guided by our legacy of all who came before me. My heartfelt thanks to the officers of the Association for the Advancement of Psychoanalysis, for giving me editorial independence and support over the many years. I am deeply thankful for the daily work of our dedicated editorial team, the Associate Editors, the Advisory Board, the Section Editors, every Editorial Board member, and all the psychoanalytic colleagues who shared their wisdom with me over the years. We nurtured our proud legacy with everyone's support.
I am very pleased to hand over the responsibility of running the Journal to Lisa Mounts and Michele Muñoz, two highly experienced psychoanalytic colleagues who have been the Co-Editors of the AJP since 2018. They are thoroughly familiar with the work, and I am fully confident that this transition will be smooth, and our cherished Journal will continue to thrive under their editorship.
