Some Memories of Mummy ponders some of the experiences with a primary caregiver which resulted in disorganised attachment patterns, and the psychological mechanisms at work around them. It graphically portrays issues such as abandonment, role reversal of affect regulation, misattunement, gaze aversion, development of the false self, torture and sexual abuse, as well as survival mechanisms such as splitting, denial and dissociation. It also considers the traumatic confusion of occasional positive interactions, and the development of identity and a sense of self.
