The Henderson Hospital was a specialist democratic therapeutic community that treated those with the label of ‘moderate to severe personality disorder’ who exhibited extreme emotional distress, poor coping mechanisms, and often destructive behaviour. Leia Thomas (pseudonym), a former patient, describes her journey to and through the Henderson Hospital. She questions the subsequent decision to close the hospital, and comments on the experience of taking part in the public consultation.
