This paper is about being young and filled with desire in Iran and how people adapt and use all available technologies and techniques in order to circumvent restrictions. It is told from the perspective of Kamin Mohammadi who is a Westernized Iranian trying to understand and make sense of the rituals and strategies that are played out between individuals who are attracted to one another in an authoritarian society in which sex is institutionalized and acceptable solely as part of marriage. It almost takes us, as Westerners, back to a time in our own history of ritualized and secretive courtship in the face of high risks if discovered. We learn the material and psychological impact this has on the Iranians that live this way and in the process gain insight into a very different culture from our Western way of life.
