In this paper, I use an element of my own history, alongside a discussion of the association/dissociation method of work within psychoanalysis. I enquire into the points of convergence and divergence of Jungian and Relational Psychoanalytic conceptions of the self. I discuss the clinical usefulness of reflecting on a conception of the self that values diversity, multiplicity, and the practice of building bridges between different self-states.
