This is a humorous account of an experience of getting to and attending a talk given by Antony Gormley at Wimbledon College of Art, in 2010. Although it is light hearted in tone, in addition to entertaining, the article aims to highlight the ways in which “dis”ability is created through encounters with others as two people with physical differences negotiate the route to the talk and attempt to participate in the post-talk debate with varying levels of success. It also provides a glimpse of the way in which active engagement with and challenge to the prevailing norms around difference can be liberating.
