This article describes a model that can assist in achieving productive conversations in organisations or groups. The model describes the four positions or contributions to any dialogue that can help the participants to understand their role and valid contribution to the conversation. The four key positions of mover, challenger, supporter, and observer are identified on the two axes of advocacy and enquiry. The model can be used with groups or teams to explore issues by trying out the different roles. It can also be used by an individual to consider how to make their own contribution more valuable.
