This is a paper about hidden trauma, unbearable vulnerability, and the impact of an attachment-based psychoanalytic psychotherapy on a patient given the diagnosis of having a “borderline personality disorder”. It demonstrates how John Bowlby's attachment theory and Allan Schore's neuroscience was essential in understanding her internal processes, her relationship to her body, and to the external world. The paper describes how the process of repair could begin once that had been fully recognised and understood.
