Welcome to Volume 17, Issue 1, of Attachment, where we explore aspects of love, loss, and development. Before we introduce you to the main editorial and clinical papers, we need to highlight some important elements included in this current issue. First, we wish to acknowledge the sad passing of Prof Mary Main, and, to do so, we start this issue with two warm and moving tributes to this iconic woman: a celebratory memoriam of her contributions to the field of attachment science from the renowned Prof Peter Fonagy and a poignant “love letter” to the “queen of attachment research” from the incomparable Prof Brett Kahr.
We also include a selection of book reviews sourced by Ms Gülcan Sutton Purser who has stepped down from her role as book reviews editor. She has been in this role for ten years and we are extremely grateful for her contribution.
We are delighted to include in this issue the first formally peer-reviewed paper by Ms Anne Power. I am personally very grateful to her for allowing us to pilot this process with her splendid work on couples.
Finally, we end this issue with a special response from Dr Andrew Briggs, who has reviewed our previous special issue on “Fathers”, much to my delight. His expertise on the subject of “fathers” has allowed him to respond with thought and integrity on the subject matter, allowing us to continue closing the gap on this important but neglected area.
We are grateful to all our contributors and trust you'll find this an engaging and enjoyable issue with a creative and complex mix of love, loss, and development.
