I am pleased to introduce volume 9 of the Annual, which contains a selection of the best work which appeared in the Rivista di Psicoanalisi during 2014. In reality, the selection does not include several original works because, having appeared in English, it did not make sense to reprint them again in the Annual. However, I would like to cite some which would certainly have deserved to be included: Jay Greenberg, «What Daimon made you do it? Thoughts on desire in the consulting room»; Lissa Weinstein, «In the field and In the House»; Howard B. Levine, «Beyond neurosis: Unrepresented states and the construction of mind»; John C. Foehl, «The rays of the world: Depth and the reversibility of time»; Avner Bergstein, «Beyond the spectrum: Fear of breakdown, catastrophic change and the unrepresented unconscious». Other original but translated contributions also came from Lesley Caldwell, «Holding and interpretation: Winnicott at work»; Luis Kancyper, «Carolina and the cloud: The role of friendship in the analytic process in adolescence»; Anne Denis, «Thought disturbances arising from verbal phylogenetic patterns»; and lastly, Laurie Laufer, «The subjectivization of an era: What does homoparenting bring to psychoanalysis?»
This is by way of restating the international vocation which the Rivista wants to have now, and also to occupy the role to which it is entitled among the most prestigious journals. I shall also take the opportunity to recall that the Rivista was founded by Edoardo Weiss in 1932 (for comparison, the IJP was founded by Ernest Jones in 1920) in Rome with the name of Rivista Italiana di Psicoanalisi. However, publication of Weiss's journal had to be interrupted after three years because of Fascism. Psychoanalysis was considered a Jewish science, subversive by its very nature, and therefore to be banned. It was set up once again in 1954 by Cesare Musatti as the Rivista di Psicoanalisi. Subsequent editors have included, among others, Francesco Corrao from 1971
