In some pathologies, such as serious disturbances in eating behavior, the body seems to have lost its metaphorical power and the mind its capacity to transform experience metaphorically, as in the case that is the focus of this paper. This patient's incapacity to think metaphorically seems closely connected to a lack of reflective thinking - that is, to the possibility of feeling herself to be the «subject» of what happens to her: there is the body that I have, but not the body that I am. We will see how, as a result of this, the patient's unconscious has remained trapped in a body that does not have words, and how this has put the analytic frame to the test. Beginning with a reverie in session, the analytic function has activated the slow work of resymbolization, initially in the analyst's mind, then slowly visible in the patient's thinking as well.
