The theme of this paper focuses on the exchanges of internal contents between two people, the passage from the internal world of one to the internal world of the other, and the ways in which two human beings are «combined» in analysis, as in life, modulating the perception of the Self and the Not-Self. A first theoretical starting point can be identified in Three Essays on the Theory of Sexuality (1905), where Freud did not limit himself to merely observing and describing the developmental phases of instinctual drives, but admirably extended his gaze to their psychic equivalents.
It can be said that his interest focused progressively on the process of formation and structuring of the intrapsychic (as a precursor also to studies on character) but that he also lay the foundations for rebuilding the experiential-relational-educational environment in which this process develops from the beginning.
The observation point that I now intend to propose starts from there, from psycho-sexuality, and essentially promotes the concept of «psychic equivalents» of vital bodily functions and, above all, of creative corporeal conjunctions between human beings; I am especially interested in the evolution of the analytic relationship as a place of re-discovery, transformation and progress in the capacity to relate usefully and, indeed, creatively with the other, through a partial non-confusive fusionality. I prefer to explore the field of pathology, our traditional area of work, starting from that of physiology.
All healthy and natural interactions (nurturing and being nurtured, giving and receiving care, loving genital intercourse, etc.) have their psychic equivalents: the quality and mode of these relational prototypes generate and organize the subsequent interpsychic exchanges.
These profound interchanges, in analysis as in life, are often unexpected and spontaneous: they are generated and present themselves at a preconscious inspirational level. In many cases, they can organize themsel
