In recent years psychoanalysis has been going through extraordinary changes in both theory and practice. These changes, which have been dramatically accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, touch virtually everything that we understand about what psychoanalysis is. These changes require that we revisit our understanding of the components of and even the goals of psychoanalytic education. In this paper I review some of the assumptions that shaped traditional training models and suggest that what is most important today is not so much the development of expertise in particular theories or techniques as it is the transmission of an «analytic attitude». I go on to discussing various aspects of this attitude and how they can be best transmitted in the various components of training.
