The topic of supervision in psychoanalytic training, its forms, its aims, the way of understanding in it the intertwining of the “three impossible tasks” (analysing, educating and governing) carries a long history, which this note traces in broad strokes, from the days of the Analysenkontrolle, then of the “learning alliance” to the complexity and problems gradually posed by the evolution of contemporary psychoanalysis. Without any systematic claim, an attempt will be made to indicate certain fundamental junctures that run through this history and that concern the role of the supervisory situation (but also its potential pitfalls) in transmitting, facilitating, well tempering (or paradoxically hindering) that very special knowledge/know-how/receptivity to the unconscious that is the development of a psychoanalytic mind.
KEY WORDS: Ein-gedenken, evolution of its conceptions, meeting-telling-parting, theoretical-clinical nexus, new clinical practices and extensions of listening, contemporary psychoanalysis, supervision, psychoanalytic training.
