The following paper “On the Teaching and Learning of Termination in Psychoanalysis” by Stanley S. Weiss and myself is part of a series begun several years ago that focuses on educational questions. Like the paper published in the 1979 volume on how members of an admissions committee can learn more about the tasks of selecting candidates, this paper speaks more specifically to the teacher of a case conference on termination. We have tried to discuss the planning of such a course in relation to the whole curriculum on theory and to present a clinical report from which an assessment of a student's knowledge about termination and his clinical competence in this area can be made.
If anyone has comments on this paper or others in this section, we would be glad to receive them. Examples of experiences in other institutes will also be welcome; we will try to get going a dialogue on pertinent topics even if we may not be able to publish them all.
