A procedure for the study and evaluation of results of psychoanalysis has been presented. The follow-up study, in a series of interviews, by an analyst other than the treating analyst, elicits data which are comprehensible in terms of usual analytic theory and practice, and which enable one to evaluate, in analytically meaningful terms, improvements as well as residues. The study of each patient has raised further questions which are to be pursued in the study of additional patients. The study, so far, also points to the usefulness of long-range follow-up study as a means for obtaining more exact information regarding the vicissitudes of specific residual problems in relation to maturation and changing external circumstances.
