The Annual Meetings in 1961 were dedicated to the Fiftieth Anniversary of the founding of the American Psychoanalytic Association. It seemed singularly fitting to celebrate on this occasion the pre-eminent position of the Association as the representative of the science of psychoanalysis in America by directing attention to the steadily increasing and important role it has assumed in fostering psychoanalytic education. Accordingly, a section of the meetings was devoted to a plenary session at which reports were heard on the development of the educational program, the consultation service, the conference on curriculum, and the future plans of the Committee on Psychoanalytic Education. The enthusiasm and the warm interest displayed in these proceedings by the membership prompted the Executive Committee to recommend to the Editorial Board the publication of these reports. A fitting background to the reports is a historical survey of American Psychoanalytic Education in a paper which was also presented at these meetings.
