I AM TAKING THIS OPPORTUNITY to extend greetings to colleagues and readers, and to offer some perspective and commentary.
I succeed and salute Dr. John Frosch, the founding father of this Journal, now Editor Emeritus. Dr. Frosch had not only the exceptional wisdom and foresight to establish the Journal, but the insight and expertise to guide it through an entire generation of psychoanalysis. His perceptiveness and progressive innovation were also reflected in the organization of the Editorial Board as a diverse elective and representative group of outstanding psychoanalysts. Dr. Frosch developed high standards for the Journal and an autonomous position which kept it free from political and professional pressures. Dr. Nathaniel Ross rendered distinguished service as Associate Editor. He brought to the Journal his intellectual acuity and profound analytic scholarship. The book section was especially enhanced by Dr. Ross's sensitive and critical discernment. From its inception, the Journal was most fortunate in its editorial direction and integrity. We are indebted beyond measure for the unswerving dedication and illustrious accomplishment of our retiring editors and wish them every success in their new undertakings. We look forward to their further professional and scientific contributions.
