It is apparent from the foregoing that the assessment of suitability for analysis is a complex task. This protocol has been formlated in an attempt to present a well-constructed system for evaluation which can be used by colleagues in the project of developing and sharing experience concerning analyzability. The particular advantage of this profile is that it may be used with a limited number of interviews, without compromising systematic scrutiny of personality functions relevant to analyzability. It also provides an assessment scale which will allow comparisons of the same person at various points in time and of different patients rated reliably within the same scale. This profile represents the first step in the practical and theoretical systematization of analyzability at the Washington Psychoanalytic Institute. It is hoped that it will stimulate others to join in such study.
