This issue of JAPA marks our beginning a six-times-yearly publishing schedule, designed to bring manuscripts to print in a more timely manner. This is particularly important to our growing research section, where prompt dissemination of empirical findings is essential for both investigators and consumers of research. Especially important are findings that bear on psychoanalytically derived psychotherapies, which make up an increasingly significant part of most analytic practices (and so need to be more widely taught in psychoanalytic training programs). We are fortunate to have persuaded Steven P. Roose to assume the position of Associate Editor for Research, vacant due to the untimely death of Stuart Hauser, a longtime advocate for research in psychoanalysis. Dr. Roose, Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at Columbia University and Chairperson of Research at the Columbia Psychoanalytic Center, is a renowned clinical investigator and psychoanalyst at the forefront of our field's empirical science efforts. He has assembled a terrific team of research editors—J. Stuart Ablon, Jacques P. Barber, Eric A. Fertuck, and Mark J. Hilsenroth—to help advance the journal's research mission.
This time of year is always a bittersweet one at JAPA as we say goodbye to our outgoing editorial board members. There is never a way to adequately thank board members for their hard work and dedication to the journal and its authors. We try to bring a generative and scholarly perspective to every manuscript we review, regardless of the final editorial decision we make regarding publication in JAPA. Silvia Bell, Deborah Cabaniss, Melvin R. Lansky, Howard Levine, Jennifer Stuart, and Mitchell Wilson have served admirably in this task. I thank them wholeheartedly and look forward to further collaboration with them in the future. Welcome to the new board members, Eve Caligor, Bertram Cohler, Morris N. Eagle, Erik Gann, Volney Gay, and Wendy Katz, who join us in our interesting and challenging work.
