The core of the correspondence between Anna Freud and Eva Rosenfeld covers the years 1929-31. The letters are predominantly private in character and are written in the formative years of Anna Freud's work as a child psychoanalyst. They are affectionate, sensitive and spontaneous. Eva Rosenfeld started analysis with Sigmund Freud after the traumatic death of her third child, and the correspondence between her and Anna Freud offers a perspective on their dedication to the task of ‘psychoanalytic pedagogy’. The letters also illustrate the productive years of the Freud circle and the personal and professional relationships of the people who were involved in the growth of the psychoanalytic movement.
