This American anthology addresses the fundamental issue of the potential morbidity and mortality of analysts. The personal nature of the accounts makes for interesting reading; transference and countertransference issues for the ill analyst are considered, alongside the implications of serious illness on the psychoanalytic process. Analysands’ responses to pregnancy and miscarriage are described. A third section contains papers addressing issues around the death of the analyst, including questions of technical handling.
