This provisional Profile on a nine-and-a-half-year-old girl was compiled and written in 1988. It is based on a social history by the PSW, a school report, two diagnostic interviews by Ms Jennifer Kaplan, reports from a psychiatrist and a behaviour therapist, and a psychological evaluation.
Amanda was referred to us by her mother, who telephoned to ask if we would consider her daughter for individual therapy. She explained that the family had sought help in the past on a number of occasions, both from the national health service and privately. Mrs B felt that Amanda had never had ‘anyone for herself’ in a therapeutic relationship and wondered whether the time was not appropriate for her to be seen individually.
When I saw Mrs B at a preliminary meeting (feeling rather dubious as to whether a further intervention was likely to be valuable), I found her very open about her own health, as well as her difficult relationship with her husband and her anger and desperation over Amanda's combative and aggressive behaviour.
