Abstract

Our pre-circulated paper grew out of a series of group discussions based on the members' clinical cases alongside a survey of the literature. Our group began to feel that there was a gap between our experience of the termination process as it unfolded and the theoretical conceptualizations both as regards the psychic changes that should precede the termination phase and the expectable developments in the final lap.

Our assessment of the issues that arise out of a termination phase were based on clinical examples. The particular cases were chosen to
