Dr. Richard D. Evans, Corresponding Editor for the Los Angeles Psychoanalytic Society, describes the following events:
“Plans are under way for our traditional joint meeting in the Fall. It will probably be held, as last year, during October in Santa Barbara. We will meet with the Society for Psychoanalytic Medicine of Southern California and the San Francisco Psychoanalytic Society. The latter includes the Seattle Training Center.
“Candidates currently in training in the Los Angeles Psychoanalytic Institute number 36. This figure includes 5 who have been newly accepted and who have not yet started their course. Five others will have completed their theoretical requirements by the end of March.
“The Institute inaugurated the Los Angeles Psychoanalytic Service two years ago with Dr. Ralph Greenson as Director. Dr. Ivan McGuire has recently been appointed Associate Director. This service operates a low cost clinic and determines the suitability of patients referred to it, for use as control cases for candidates. It has been found a very satisfactory method for accomplishing this purpose. The patients pay minimum fees which go to the service and candidates are provided with control hours without charge. Only patients for psychoanalytic therapy are accepted and six are now undergoing treatment. Candidates who have enrolled since January, 1950, are required to take at least one patient assigned to him by the clinic and to devote a minimum of 300 hours to his psychoanalysis without fee.
“Dr. David Brunswick has been appointed Director of the Extension School of the Institute, with Dr. Herbert Kupper as the Associate Director. Under this department of Institute activities, Drs. Greenson and McGuire are giving a seminar dealing with case material for psychiatric social workers. The teaching is to be primarily focused on the management of anxious and depressed patients
“Drs. Samuel Futterman, Herbert Kupper, and Richard Evans have been appointed Lecturers
