Dr. Richard E. Evans, Corresponding Editor for the Los Angeles Psychoanalytic Society, reports that at the first meeting of the Society this fall under the new President, Dr. Ralph Greenson, Mrs. Margrit Munk was elected to accredited membership. Much appreciation was shown Dr. Charles Tidd on his retirement in June, after three years as head of the group. During his three terms of office the former president served the Society with devotion and outstanding ability.
Interesting reports on the Congress of the International Psycho-Analytical Association held in Amsterdam were presented by Dr. David Brunswick, Dr. Carel Van der Heide, Dr. Samuel Sperling, and Dr. Michael Rosow at the September meeting. The program committee, consisting of Dr. Ivan McGuire (Chairman) and Dr. Sperling, plan to have an evening devoted to “A Critical Evaluation of the Melanie Klein School.” The discussion stimulated by reports of a paper by Paula Heiman at the recent Congress made it seem advisable to devote more time to this subject. Another meeting in the near future will be held on “The Evaluation of Psychoanalytic Therapy.” The Society's representative on the committee of the American Psychoanalytic Association which is engaged in surveying this matter is Dr. Leo Rangell. He stated that the committee had asked that such discussions be conducted in the various societies to comprise “what constitutes psychoanalysis, psychoanalytic psychotherapy, and transitional forms.”
A joint meeting of the San Francisco Psychoanalytic Society, the Seattle Training Center, and the Society for Psychoanalytic Medicine of Southern California will be held in Santa Barbara in October. The program will include the following papers from the Los Angeles Psychoanalytic Institute:
Dr. Ralph R. Greenson:
“Apathy, Boredom, and Depression”
Mrs. Margarete Ruben (by invitation):
“Mothers We Meet in Our Advisory Work.”
