It was in April 1963 that a most appropriate occasion presented itself to pay tribute to a beloved and honored leader in psychoanalysis—Helene Deutsch. On that occasion her letter, which in the opinion of many represented the credo of a psychoanalyst, was published in the Journal. On October 9, 1964, Helene Deutsch reached her 80th birthday. It seems to us that on this felicitous occasion, in congratulating her and again paying tribute, it would be most appropriate to quote from this letter: "… age does not change that feeling of the endless continuity of personal existence …" nor, may we add, the "endless continuity" of inspiration which Helene Deutsch represents to all of us. Many happy returns of the day.
