In "A Theory of Motivational-Functional Systems as Psychic Structures" (Lichtenberg, 1988), I failed to cite the prior use of the term and concept of motivational systems by Rosenblatt and Thickstun (1977), (1984). While Rosenblatt and Thickstun derive their extensive
exploration of motivational systems from an information-processing approach and I derive my developmental hypotheses largely from infant research and observation, both suggestions give similar emphasis to factors such as affects and attachment. Any reader interested in the summary of my ideas in the Journal paper and their extended development in Psychoanalysis and Motivation(1989) would find much of value in a careful review of the convergences and divergences of approach and conclusions between Rosenblatt and Thickstun and myself.
