The Nineteenth International Psycho-Analytical Congress was held in Geneva, Switzerland, at the Geneva University, from Sunday, 24 July, to Thursday, 28 July, 1955. Although, owing to the Big Four Conference, last minute rearrangements concerning the location of the meetings had to be made, the organization of the Congress was without fault. The social entertainments did honor to Geneva's well-known spirit of hospitality. On Sunday night the Swiss Society gave a reception to the Congress guests at the Hotel des Bergues. Monday night Drs. Charles Durand, Marcel Roch and Claude Horneffer were hosts to the Congress participants at a dinner at the Rives. On Tuesday evening an official reception was given by the Conseil d'Etat and the Conseil Administratif of the Canton and the City of Geneva at the Parc des Eaux-Vives. The high point of the social programme, however, without any doubt was the reception and dinner given by Dr. de Saussure at the beautiful Chateau de Vufflens.
There were excursions and guided tours through the University, the U.N.O. and I.L.O. buildings, a visit to a Holiday Camp for children of the S.N.C.F. at the Pas de l'Echelle, and on Thursday afternoon a visit to the Malevoz Clinic with dinner offered by Dr. André Repond.
Members of the Central Executive present at the Congress were: Dr. Ernest Jones, Honorary President; Dr. Heinz Hartmann, President; the Vice-Presidents: Princess Marie Bonaparte, Miss Anna Freud, Dr. Jeanne Lampl-de Groot and Dr. W. H. Gillespie; Dr. Maxwell Gitelson, Honorary Treasurer. Dr. Ruth S. Eissler, Honorary Secretary, could not attend the Congress for reasons of health. Dr. K. R. Eissler kindly substituted for her.
The total attendance of the Congress was 558 persons.
