Presented to the Business Meeting on Wednesday 2nd August 1995
In this brief report, I shall first try to offer a general view of the activities developed by the IPA's Executive Committee, that is by the President, Past-President, Secretary and Treasurer over the past two years, and then go on to mention the most important activities and events in the International Psychoanalytical Association since the last International Congress in Amsterdam, in July 1993.
It has been two years since I assumed the position of General Secretary for IPA, and I may say that to administer the International Psychoanalytical Association is not an easy task. Dr Horacio Etchegoyen, our President, has endeavoured with great dedication and persistence to deal with the various issues and questions arising in our Association, in the context of the fundamental principles that characterise his office: to work towards a more democratic approach, with increased representation both of the members and of the Societies that compose the International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA).
Five new committees have been formed with this objective in mind: the Committee on Societies, the Appointments Committee, the Committee on Psychoanalytic Education (COMPSED), the Committee on the Procedural Code and the Committee on Congresses. Each one of these committees has its own specific tasks and is engaged in perfecting our institutional, administrative and educational system, bearing in mind that it is important to have a transparent administration, with clear procedures that will actually cater to the needs and requirements of its members.
