The following reports were submitted by Societies in early 1995 for the Secretary's Report to the Executive Council and the Business Meeting at the San Francisco Congress.

Mrs Helen Fischer, Administrative Director of the American for thirty-eight years, retired after the May Meeting in 1994. President Bernard Pacella expressed the appreciation of several generations of members for her years of devoted service to our organisation. Mrs Fischer was given an emotional standing ovation by the Council.

Her position was assumed by Dr Doris Eder who held the post until 17 April 1995 when she resigned. Ms Ellen Fertig has been hired as the new Administrative Director and will begin her term on 16 July.

Our major concern for most of this period has been the deteriorating environment for analytic practice. Both managed care and health-care reform can make the practice of intensive psychotherapy and psychoanalysis
