Dear Sir
I was very interested to read the sympathetic review (forwarded to me by a friend) of my book of interviews One to One together with Ann France's Consuming Psychotherapy, her account of her own therapy.
I had hoped to meet Ann France but I shall not be able to; she committed suicide on 11 March.
After a death, particularly an untimely or tragic one, there is a need to do something. What I can do is ask that her thoughtful book be read by your professional readers, particularly with this question in mind: is there some basic difficulty in facing patients' depression? (I mean true mental pain, not disguised as symptoms.)
[One to One and Consuming Psychotherapy were reviewed in British Journal of Psychotherapy, Vol. 5(4), pp. 595-596-Ed.]
