Dear Sir
I would like to draw the attention of your Journal's readers to the following request: Dr Judith Kestenberg, a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst from New York, is seeking mental health professionals to assist in a research project by The Jerome Riker International Study of Organized Persecution of Children. The project is under way in North America and is now moving into England and Europe. The project is seeking volunteers in England who would be willing to interview child survivors of the Holocaust.
The aims are as follows: ‘The participants in the Jerome Riker International Study of Organized Persecution of Children are joined in their common dedication to expand understanding of effects on the development of those who suffered from child persecution and those who witnessed it as children during the Nazi era. The study is dedicated to the systematic accumulation of information pertaining to the legalized persecution of children by the Nazis during the Holocaust. Through a search of the literature and responsible interviewing, we seek to uncover and correlate historical and psychological data about child persecution’ (from the Newsletter, Volume 6, No. 1, Spring ).
Readers may find an extended discussion of this research project in an interview with Dr Kestenberg conducted by me in Free Associations, Number 22, Spring 1990. Dr Kestenberg can be contacted at: The Child Development Research Centre, 30 Soundview Lane, Sands Point, New York 11050, USA.
