This paper explores the internal images of the feminine Container and the masculine Rescuer and suggests that non containment by a mother figure leads to the search for a powerful male Rescuer. I have hypothesised that it is not until the child or patient can find containment and reduce the longing for an external Rescuer, that he or she can find his or her own inner rescuing capacity.
