Dear Editor,
I thought some BJP readers might be interested to know that a UK branch of the World Association for Infant Mental Health (WAIMH) has recently been inaugurated. It aims to bring together for mutual benefit numbers of all professions interested in the welfare of infants and their families, such as psychotherapists, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, health visitors, community psychiatric nurses, midwives, teachers, paediatricians, etc.
Close links between clinicians and researchers are particularly useful, while high profile professions could lend valuable support to those professions which are at present undervalued. AIMH-UK plans to provide information to support those campaigning for resources for infants and their families and to promote infant mental health through publicity, strategic discussions and conferences.
Details may be obtained from Asha Phillips, Hon. Sec. AIMH-UK, Tavistock Centre, 120 Belsize Lane, London NW3 5BA (fax: 0171- 447 3729).
Yours sincerely,
Joan Raphael-Leff
