In this special clinical commentary on parent-child work, I would like firstly to thank Louise Emanuel (Head of Under Five's Service at the Tavistock Clinic) for her efforts to make the whole piece possible. Secondly, my co-editor, Janine Sternberg, for her efforts in producing the clinical contribution and commentators and Alicia Etchegoyen for suggesting the whole idea. I hoped that this edition might be a step towards an approach which illustrates how a variety of contributors, some even from the same theoretical schools, exemplify different understanding of clinical material.
I too would like to express gratitude to Louise Emanuel for helping to make the piece happen. The contributors are all leading clinicians in this special field of parent-child work and many of them take the opportunity frequently to discuss case material ‘across the theoretical boundaries’. We chose to have more contributors than the usual three, to show the complexity of this apparently simple work.
